A few words about Simpsons Golf Shop…..
Established in 1883, the Simpsons Golf Shop Carnoustie is believed to be the second oldest golf shop in the world. It is situated just a few steps away from the world famous Carnoustie Championship Links – opposite the Carnoustie Golf Course Hotel – and is easily visible from the world famous 18th green.
Simpsons is well known to local golfers and visitors from all corners of the globe. Since the 1930’s it has become a familiar landmark for the growing number of visitors because of Carnoustie’s historic and prestigious status as an Open Championship venue.
Simpsons is especially popular with golf enthusiasts from North America where the story of the Simpsons family is already fairly well known. More recently, visitors from the Far East and more particularly from China have become interested in learning more about the heritage of the Simpsons brand and the tremendous contribution made by the Simpsons brothers to the development of competitive golf over a hundred years ago.
Simpsons Golf Shop is a quality retailer of golfwear, golf accessories, hickory golf clubs, Donald Shearer Golf limited edition prints (including Ryder Cup course), tartan gift merchandise, golf trophies, Carnoustie Country branded golfwear, official Ryder Cup tartan clothing as well as souvenirs, jewellery and memorablia
We have a range of golfwear to suit everyone’s pocket. As well as our new range of Daily Sports and Surprizeshop for ladies, we stock Galvin Green, Oakley, Sunderland, Murraygolf, Masters and Proquip. These are discreetly monogrammed with our “Simpsons of Carnoustie” or “Carnoustie Scotland” logo. We also supply our own exclusive range of Simpson branded hickory clubs and putters bearing the Robert Simpson stamp. These are made for us by the st Andrews Golf company – the oldest golf business in the world – made for the 2nd oldest in the world!
As well as golfers, visitors are welcome to browse and select a gift or souvenir from our range of tartan merchandise, jewellery, Donald Shearer limited edition prints or engraved crystalware. Simpsons Golf Shop also boasts one of the largest collection of bag tags to be found anywhere. These have been gifted by visitors over the last 40 years or so. They adorn the rafters of the shop and are on full view to all our visitors.
The Carnoustie Championship course has hosted the Open on 7 occasions (1931, 1937, 1953, 1968, 1975, 1999 and 2007) and has been chosen as the Open venue for 2018. In recent years it played host to the Scottish Open in 1995 and 1996, the Seniors Open in 2010 and the Ricoh Womens Open in 2011. Gary Player spoke of Carnoustie as being “the toughest course in the World” and it was the scene of Tom Watson’s first Open Championship win. Golfers from the world over look upon Carnoustie as the truest test of golf and the venue has given its name to the “Carnoustie Country” destination brand which boasts some of the finest and renowned golf courses in the world.
Carnoustie also plays host to the Carnoustie Country Classic (every May), the Tassie (each September) and the Alfred Dunhill Championship (2nd to 5th October 2014). This year the famous Links will host the British Amateur championship (15 to 20 June 2015).
